The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) has announced that all of its members will be engaging in a one-day strike on Thursday, March 5, 2020. This decision affects all Catholic district school boards in Ontario.

As a result of this strike, all Waterloo Catholic District School Board elementary and secondary schools will be closed on March 5.

In addition to the closure of all WCDSB elementary and secondary schools on March 5, please note the following:

Some programs offered at the WCDSB’s St. Louis Adult Learning & Continuing Education Centres will be cancelled on March 5 —  they are:

  • Hairstyling will be closed
  • Culinary Arts will be closed
  • Secondary School Credit Day School will be closed

All other St. Louis Adult Learning & Continuing Education Centres programs will be running as per their normal schedules.

Community use of schools activities will continue as scheduled.

OECTA’s previously announced job actions will remain in effect before and after March 5.

As before, we remain hopeful the two sides will return to the bargaining table quickly and will come to a fair and respectful agreement that serves the best interests of our students.

All Buses Cancelled Today: Friday Feb 28

Due to current and expected weather conditions, all school buses and taxis are cancelled today. All schools (including St. Louis) and board administrative facilities are OPEN.

A reminder that if you are driving your children to school you are responsible for picking them up at the end of the day.

SEB Lenten Project

Dear Families,

As we begin the Lenten season, we are called to reflect on the three areas in our preparation, prayer, fasting and almsgiving. As part of our almsgiving, the staff and students at Sir Edgar Bauer school will be assisting our parish partners at St. Michael’s Church in their Lenten Project, North of 60 KW.

What is North of 60 KW?

North of 60 KW is a Lenten Project of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Michael’s parish. The goal of this project is to assist 25 families in the small town of Baker Lake Nunavut.

Facts about Bake Lake:

  • Baker Lake includes eleven different Inuit groups.
  • Most of its citizens work at nearby mines.
  • 40 % of the population is children under that age of 18.

How can we help?

On Monday March 2, we will begin the collection for the North of 60 KW project. Each week the students will be invited to bring in a different item that will be sent to the community of Baker Lake. The items we will be collecting appeal to children.

March 2-6: Kraft Dinner

March 9-13: Granola Bars

March 23-27: Cookies

March 30- April 2: Kraft Dinner

Thank you for your support of our Lenten almsgiving.

Sir Edgar Bauer Pastoral Team

SEB Gratitude and Reminders

Appreciation:

All of the SEB staff and students would like to thank our parents for our amazing Shrove Tuesday. Your pancakes were delicious and helped us frame our classroom community celebrations. We greatly appreciate your efforts in getting up extra early, taking time off work and supporting our students.

Reminders:

Tomorrow we will celebrate Ash Wednesday with our liturgy led by Father Freitas. All families and community members are welcome. We will also focus on the theme of “lifting each other up” by wearing our Pink. Inclusivity at its best.

Reminder: SEB’s Pancake Tuesday Celebration

Hello Stars:

Please see message from our Catholic School Advisory Council around our very special celebration tomorrow.

On Tuesday February 25th, to celebrate Shrove Tuesday, kids are asked
to leave their breakfast at home.

The SEB Catholic School Advisory Council would like to treat the
students, faculty and staff of Sir Edgar Bauer School to a pancake
breakfast on Shrove Tuesday. Pancakes and syrup will be served after
morning announcements and kids will eat breakfast together in their
classrooms.  Unfortunately, due to rising costs, juice will no longer
be provided.

Due to the large number of students participating in the pancake
breakfast we are not able to
accommodate food allergies, such as eggs, gluten and/or dairy. If your
child has a food allergy or any other dietary restriction we ask that
you please send a breakfast snack with them to school. This will allow
all kids to join in the celebration!

An added challenge from our school staff:

We challenge YOU…..

To bring your own reusable

plastic plate and fork from home for your pancakes!

Help reduce garbage in your class!!

Then wash those sticky dishes before taking them

back home!!

Faith in Action Elementary Skills Challenge Cancelled/Postponed for 2020

Dear Parents / Caregivers,

Due to ongoing job action undertaken by the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) — and the teacher supervision requirements associated with the Faith in Action Elementary Skills Challenge Days — the Skills events scheduled for March 4th and March 5th, 2020 at Conestoga College have been cancelled/postponed.

The school board is currently looking at alternatives to the original event and will communicate these with schools as they become available.

As a school system that places a high emphasis on innovation and experiential learning we are very proud of the preparation students have done up to this point and are encouraged that the skills they have built will continue to be applied in their classes and beyond.

We also thank you for the support you – as our partners in education – have offered the students in terms of volunteer driving and supervision during the many workshops that have already occurred.

While students, parents, and staff are bound to be disappointed with the cancellation of this year’s Faith in Action Skills Challenge, we thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through challenging times.

We continue to remain hopeful for a fair, negotiated resolution to the current labour disruption and the WCDSB Skills Team continues to look for innovative ways to keep our students engaged in their learning.

All Waterloo Catholic DSB Schools Closed on Friday, February 21st and Monday, February 24th

In the absence of a provincially-negotiated collective agreement, the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) has selected the Waterloo Catholic District School Board as one of the Ontario school boards included in a one day rotating strike on Monday, February 24, 2020.

As a result of this strike, all Waterloo Catholic District School Board elementary and secondary schools will be closed on February 24.

This one day strike is in addition to the province-wide one day OECTA strike already announced for Friday, February 21, 2020.

In addition to the closure of all WCDSB elementary and secondary schools on February 24, please note the following:

Some programs offered at the WCDSB’s St. Louis Adult Learning & Continuing Education Centres will be cancelled on February 24 —  they are:

  • Hairstyling will be closed

Community use of schools activities will continue as scheduled.

OECTA’s previously announced job actions will remain in effect before and after February 24.

As before, we remain hopeful the two sides will come to a fair and respectful agreement that serves the best interests of our students.

Happy Family Day Stars!

Our SEB Staff would like to wish all of our families a wonderful long weekend. We hope you enjoy your extra time connecting with loved ones. See you Tuesday.
