SEB Updates

Hello Stars,

The SEB Staff thank you for your support this past week and helping us navigating our first probable COVID-19 case. We recognize the challenges that come with this upsetting news.

A reminder that if you received a High Risk Contact letter for your child that you continue to follow the advice of Public Health through the directed letter and/or their further communication by phone or text. At this point the impacted cohort has not been released and cannot yet attend school. Public Health advise of this.

If you are choosing to keep your child home at this time, please be sure to call the school and leave a message. We accept your decisions, yet are still responsible for ensuring all students are safe.

We continue to review our safety protocols at school and ask you to do the same at home. Every student attending needs to be screened by a parent or guardian each morning. Please continue to use our screening tool:

Probable COVID-19 Case

Information for Parents/Guardians

A probable case of COVID-19 has been identified at Sir Edgar Bauer CES. Sir Edgar Bauer is working with Region of Waterloo Public Health to prevent further spread of COVID-19 in Children/Students, staff and the community.

What does this mean for Children/Students?

  • The school has dismissed the entire cohort(s) who had exposure to the COVID Case regardless of the vaccination status.
  • Public Health will work with the school to identify high-risk student and staff contacts of the confirmed case.
  • Children/Students who have been identified as high-risk contacts of a confirmed case have been sent a letter by the school with specific information on dates of exposure, testing information, and the cohort end of isolation date.
  • High risk contacts will be followed up via text and phone, to provide specific directions related to the need for the student to self-isolate and self-monitor, as well as provide testing information and return to school guidance.
  • Children/Students who are low risk contacts (have NOT been identified as high risk  contacts) of a confirmed case will not be contacted and are not required to self-isolate and should self-monitor for symptoms
  • If additional cohorts must self-isolate or the school must close, you will be notified. The school and Public Health will keep you informed about any plans regarding return to classes.
    • The term cohort includes children/students and staff in the same class, children/students involved in group activities or who have been in shared spaces during school, students that ride the same bus, attend before/after school care, or participate in extracurricular programming together.
    • Continue to monitor and screen your child for symptoms of COVID-19 daily.

What is COVID-19?

·         COVID-19 is a new strain of coronavirus that has not previously been identified in humans

  • COVID-19 symptoms include, but are not limited to fever, cough, trouble breathing, and loss of taste/smell. A list of symptoms, including atypical signs and symptoms, can be also be found in the COVID-19 Reference Document for Symptoms on the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 website
  • People may be able to pass COVID-19 to others from 48 hours before symptoms begin to 10 days after the start of symptoms

What is a Variant of Concern (VOC)?

  • Viruses constantly change through mutation, and new variants of a virus are expected to occur over time. Sometimes new variants emerge and disappear. Other times, new variants emerge and persist. For COVID-19, variants of concern (VOC) are those that may spread more easily, cause more severe illness or the vaccine may not be as effective against.
  • In response to the evolving situation related to VOCs, Region of Waterloo Public Health has initiated enhanced Contact Management for all COVID-19 cases in an effort to prevent the spread. This means that we use a lower risk threshold to identify contacts and initiate contact tracing early while test results may be pending.

Additional COVID-19 resources can be found on Region of Waterloo Public Health’s COVID-19 webpage at

Welcome Back Stars: SEB September Newsletter

Happy First Day Back Stars!

We had a wonderful day reconnecting with our amazing students. We thank our parents for following and ensuring our COVID safety protocols are being monitored. A reminder to verify that you have screened your child(ren) and reported that verification to their classroom teacher each day. This is completed through their D2L or google classroom platforms. This can easily be accessed through the Board website:

Please see our Opening SEB Newsletter with our start up information. This is a nice document to keep handy with relevant dates and procedures.

Sir Edgar Bauer Start Up Information

Welcome Back Stars!

We hope that everyone enjoys a long weekend prior to our September 7th start. A reminder of important start up information is below. Families should now have access to view their child’s classroom teaching assignments through Cash Online. This does not apply to new registrations.

Please note that updated Ministry and Board protocols have us verifying that all parents/guardians have completed the WCDSB COVID screener for each child before entering our building.

Kindly ensure you have followed classroom teachers’ directions around this documentation. Each teacher will have a google form uploaded to their digital platforms (D2L or google classroom) for parents to complete each morning. Again, we recognize this takes extra time and patience, yet we appreciate your partnership in following this protocol to add another element of safety for our children.

Start Up forms for all students will be uploaded to Cash Online shortly. If possible, please complete this prior to our first day of school. Student Verification Forms will still need to be sent home on the first day to confirm contact information. If you have any changes to be made to our contact information (address, phone numbers), please call the office and leave a message. We will then adjust immediately.

Looking forward to reconnecting with our amazing students! #GoStars
