Vaccines are an important tool to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and allow families to safely resume normal activities.

Although children and youth are less likely to get very sick from COVID-19 they can still:

  • Get sick from COVID-19
  • Be infected and not have any symptoms
  • Spread COVID-19 to others
  • Experience longer-term effects if they do get infected

COVID-19 vaccines authorized by Health Canada are safe, reliable, and can help protect you, your family, and our community from COVID-19. Learn more about the COVID-19 vaccines.

This webpage will be updated when additional information about COVID-19 vaccines for children becomes available.

Can my child get the COVID-19 vaccine?

Children born in 2016 or earlier are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. Find information about how to get a vaccine.

SEB Star Reminders

Friday, Nov 19th: PD Day

A reminder to our Stars that tomorrow is a Professional Development Day for WCDSB. There will be no extended day nor any school for students tomorrow.

Monday, Nov 22nd: Photo Retake Day

Lifetouch Picture Retakes will be on Monday. If you would like to have your child’s picture retaken, please send your photos to the classroom teacher with a note. To order online visit: mylifetouch.ca with Picture Day ID: QX551122Q1 .

Increase the Peace Week:

Our shining Stars focused on how we as a school community can continue to increase the peace in our building. Random acts of kindness, being an upstander, and walking in someone else’s shoes were all discussed and promoted. Feel free to discuss with your child what resonated with them around these important life lessons.

COVID Screening:

Continued gratitude to all our families for partnering with us to keep our students safe. If your child is unwell, we appreciate you keeping them home to recover and reduce spread. We ask that all families continue to screen each day for COVID symptoms: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/ . With fluctuating community cases, this remains very important. Thank you.

Progress Reports and Conferences/Increase the Peace/PD Day Reminder

Progress Reports:

Students from Grade 1-8 will receive a progress report on November 18th. The progress report cards are intended to become a central part of rich discussions with students and their parents in the context of proactive interviews or conferences that will help to establish a positive tone for the remainder of the school year. Such communication will help establish a culture of learning and improve students’ opportunities for achieving success.

Progress reports will communicate how your child is progressing in all subjects using the following indicators:
  • Progressing Very Well (PVW)
  • Progressing Well (PW)
  • Progressing with Difficulty (PWD)
You will also find comments from teachers with respect to Learning Skills, Language, and Math.

Grade 1-8: Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences

Parent-student-teacher conferences are intended to “encourage students to set goals for learning, help teachers to establish plans for teaching, and assist parents in supporting learning at home.” (Growing Success, 53).

Sir Edgar Bauer will scheduled parent-student-teacher conferences for November 24th and 25th. These conferences will be scheduled in 10 minute intervals. Given the size of our classes, through the week as schedules allow. Classroom teachers will schedule with each family.  These interviews will be set virtually or by phone.

If you wish an interview with Planning Time, French or Special Education, please let the classroom teacher know for follow-up.

Kindergarten Communication of Learning Reports and Conferences:

Kindergarten students will receive a Communication of Learning: Initial Observations on November 18th. The Communication of Learning: Initial Observations provides parents/guardians with an overview of initial observations of their child’s learning and early evidence of growth in learning related to the overall expectations of the Kindergarten Program. This formal communication with parents/guardians also provides information about appropriate next steps to further the child’s learning. It serves as a basis for discussion with parents/guardians and as a support for parents’/guardians’ ongoing participation in their child’s learning.

For the 2021/2022 school year, parents will be provided the opportunity for a virtual interview following the receipt of the Communication of Learning Initial Observations Report. When a virtual interview is not possible, educators will schedule a phone interview with parents.

This interview experience is one of the many ways that educators, students, and families can work together to build a learning partnership to support the needs of the child both at school and at home.  These interviews will be scheduled on November 24th and November 25th.

Increase the Peace:

Next week, Sir Edgar Bauer, will continue to focus on building our sense of community while enhancing our welcoming environment. Themes including: random act of kindness, being an upstander, understanding, empathy and affirming others will be focused on. We encourage all our families to discuss these concepts at home.

Student Safety:

Please note, our Stars continue to practice our safety protocols. Although we need to modify our processes during COVID times to allow for social distancing, we have still held 3 fire drills and 2 school wide lockdown drills this school year. Safety First at SEB!

PD Day/No Extended Day Reminder:

Friday, November 19th is a Professional Development Day for all staff. There will be no school or extended day for students on this day.

St. Michael Moms Ministry – MOMS NIGHT OUT: Advent Preparations

Shops and stores don’t want you to forget it, Christmas is coming! But before we rush to December 25th, the St. Michael Moms Ministry invites you to pause and prepare for the beautiful season of Advent.  Advent may be familiar to you and your family – you may use an advent calendar to count down the days until Christmas, you might recognize the evergreen advent wreath from school or mass, or maybe your family celebrates St. Nicholas Day.  But did you know that these (and other) traditions were meant to help you celebrate the anticipation and coming of Jesus Christ?  Join us as we explore a few ideas to keep you centred on the reason for the season.

Come out on Monday, November 22nd at 7:30pm for a night out with friends while learning and preparing for the Advent season ahead. At this event, you’ll have a chance to visit stations with different themes for the season, and leave with a plan and materials to bless your home this Advent.  Visit https://stmichaelw.ca/womens-ministry to register.  This event will take place in person in the Parish Centre (Basement of 80 University Avenue W., Waterloo).  Due to COVID restrictions, attendees must wear masks, and remain physically distanced.  Questions? Email parish@stmichaelw.ca
