CUPE Strike Contingency Planning-Device Deployment

Happy Halloween Stars,

As you may be aware, contract negotiations between the Canadian Union of Public Employees – Ontario (CUPE) and the Ontario government have yet to produce an agreement.

While we encourage both sides to come to a fair agreement, we do understand that the breakdown in talks could lead to a strike by CUPE as early as Friday, November 4.

As a result, the school board is currently planning for a switch to remote learning for our students, should that become necessary.

We are currently identifying students who do not have home access to the necessary technology and would therefore require a device provided by the school.

Please complete this quick survey ( to help us prepare for distribution of devices to families who require this assistance.

Please complete this form by as soon as possible.

Thank you in advance for your patience as we work to ensure our students have the resources they need to continue learning during this uncertain time.

Final Halloween Fun Reminder

Hello Stars,

On Monday, students are invited to wear black and orange or their school friendly costume. Please ensure your child is comfortable in their outfit and still ready to learn. Classes have a block of time where they will dance away in a decorated gym with complimentary DJ services and lights.

We ask families to keep food/candy products at home, yet are welcome to send in sharing items such as stickers, pencils, erasers.

Cash on line closes on November 4th, so we ask that all Spook A Thon donations be made by then. All money raised will go back to our students, supporting CSAC initiatives.

SEB Halloween Fun

A reminder to all our families that our FUNdraiser for the year is happening now. Students have been sent home with copies of our Spook-A-Thon pledge form. We ask that families collect donations from only those you know and make one Cash On Line payment.

All students will have the opportunity to participate in a Halloween dance on October 31st. Students are invited to wear their costumes or black and orange. Please keep costumes school appropriate without weapons. Our gym will be decorated and a DJ present. It will be a wonderful time for all students.

There is no need for students to send in any class treats on this day. If students want to do something special for their classmates, stickers, pencils, erasers, etc. are best.

About a third of our families have donated at this point. If able, please consider doing so prior to our Nov 4th deadline.

Pumpkin Carving:

Our student leadership team has initiated the return of our pumpkin carving fun. All families are invited to carve a pumpkin at home and bring to school in the morning. Students will be present at the bell to collect pumpkins for our display. All students will have an opportunity to view the amazing pumpkins. Classes will vote for their favourite, most creative and spookiest with a few awards being presented. All pumpkins would need to be delivered by Thursday, prior to Friday’s vote.

Happy carving Stars!

SEB Student Vote and Saturday Skills Builder Info

Student Vote Program:

Sir Edgar Bauer students in grades three to eight are participating in the Student Vote program.

Student Vote is a parallel election for elementary and high school students, coinciding with official elections.  The program allows students to experience the voting process firsthand and practice the habits of active and informed citizenship.

The program is organized by CIVIX, a national civic education charity. Since 2003, they have conducted 60 Student Vote projects at all levels in Canada.

Over the past few weeks, students have been learning about government and democracy, exploring our municipality and school board, and researching the issues and candidates. On Thursday, October 20, students will cast ballots for the official candidates running in The Region of Waterloo. The results will be released on Monday evening after the polls close.

Sir Edgar Bauer is one of nearly 2,000 schools participating in the Student Vote from throughout the province.

The municipal elections provide an excellent opportunity for you to speak with your children about democracy and community issues.
