Christmas Blessings

Dear Stars,

As we continue to await the coming of Jesus and look forward to the opportunity to gather with our own families, the staff would like to take this occasion to thank our entire community for a wonderful start to the  school year at Sir Edgar Bauer Catholic School.

We hope you enjoyed our 1st annual Star’s Christmas Card celebrating our very own Stars student artwork! These pieces were thoughtfully designed by students and created into a card for each family, sending school blessings to you.

We celebrated Advent each week throughout the month of December and we hope that you continue to prepare as a family during this Advent season for the coming of Jesus and celebrate with loved ones this holiday season. We look forward to praying with Father this morning in our Advent liturgy.

We would like to wish each of you and your families the joy and happiness of the Christmas Season!

Stay safe, and see you back at school on Monday January 8th.

And it came to pass, when the angels had departed from them into heaven, that the shepherds were saying to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.”  So they went in haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger.”  Luke 2: 15-16

Friday Flash…a look ahead!

Good morning Stars,

With each passing day, we get closer and closer to the beauty of Christmas. Each week our Advent wreath has one more candle bringing light to our world. We are taking time to enjoy the joy and excitement that is so much part of the Advent season, and the days leading up to the birth of Jesus.

We are almost there!

We welcome Father Jamroz from St. Michael’s Church next Friday for our Advent Liturgy at 10:15am.  Parents are welcome to join in prayer with us.  Please call the school should you wish to attend so we can accommodate seating.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. Luke 2:10

Thank you for your continued support,

Good morning Stars,

Each week we continue to prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus.  To help us count down the four weeks of Advent, we use an Advent wreath.

On Monday, as a school we will light our third candle together.

This Advent season at home, reflect on:

How does Christmas bring us hope, love, faith, and belief?

How many candles were lit on the Advent Wreath?

What colours were they? Do you remember their names?

Are there any special decorations in church this Advent?

How will you bring love and joy into your home?

How will you return to school with love and joy in your hearts?

O God, who see how your people faithfully await the feast of the Lord’s Nativity,

enable us, we pray, to attain the joys of so great a salvation

and to celebrate them always with solemn worship and glad rejoicing.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever.

Amen

Winter Weather and Snow! The snow season is showing itself to be unpredictable these past weeks!  We have seen glimpses of students LOVING playing in the snow.  You can help them enjoy it more by making sure they have extra clothing to stay warm including boots, snow pants, mittens, and hats. It would be helpful for students to keep an extra pair of dry mittens and socks in their backpacks as well. As per our Board’s policy, when the temperature is between -20°C and -27°C students will not be outside longer than 15 minutes.  When temperatures are colder than -27°C, students remain inside.

We have reminded our students of the dangers of throwing snow/ice and sliding on any icy spots/hills outside. Serious injury can often result from what is often considered ‘just good fun’ or ‘joking around’ in the snow. At school, we enforce the rule of NO SNOWBALLS being thrown at people at any time (imagine 400 kids throwing snowballs…). Please reinforce this important rule with your children at home. This helps us all remain safe while walking to and from school each day and playing at recess.

We share the responsibility of snow removal on and around our property. The city is responsible for our sidewalks by the road. School personnel and board contractors are responsible for pathways and the parking lot. This involves both snow clearance and salting in certain areas. Our head custodian checks the ground conditions early every morning, and salting in some areas may occur. It is always important to be careful during the winter months when walking on pathways and sidewalks.
