Friday Flash…on a Thursday!

Good morning Stars,

As we begin the Holy Triduum, we remember the three days commemorating the crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Today is Holy Thursday, the day of the last supper.  Today was also the very First Holy Communion, as it was the first time Jesus turned bread and wine into his Body and Blood.

Good Friday is when we remember the crucifixion and death of Jesus. The day sounds sad, but it is called “Good” because we remember that Jesus loved us so much that he was willing to die for us.

Holy Saturday is a vigil day, a day of waiting and watching for something to happen. It is the day before Easter when Jesus lay in the tomb.

There is NO SCHOOL on Good Friday or Easter Monday.

School News:

THIS IS WHY WE ARE HERE:

During the Month of April:

April’s OCGE focus is on being a Responsible Citizen.  Students will join together in a faith celebration on Friday April 5th to kick off this month’s theme and will then engage in a range of classroom activities aimed at developing these skills throughout the month.

I am a Responsible Citizen:

  • I am fair
  • I am a peace-maker
  • I am forgiving
  • I follow rules and do my share
  • I help the poor and care for people in need
  • I stand up for what is right
  • I know that all life is precious
  • I respect and protect the world and all that is in it

Because I accept my responsibilities, I can make a difference, and will live my life like Jesus.

During the month of April , as Catholics we will show transferable skills through Global Citizenship and Sustainability which involves understanding diverse world views and perspectives. It involves gaining information, motivation, and skills needed to appreciate the diversity of people and perspectives in the world. It calls for the ability to envision and work towards a better and more sustainable future for all.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in cultivating a dynamic and enriching educational experience for your child.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Public Health Clarification

Dear Families,

As shared this morning, some families were sent home notices regarding vaccines.   If you received a notice, it had instructions for you to complete the vaccinations and update this information with Public Health (not the school).

The school does not keep, nor do we ask for vaccine information.

If you are unsure if your child’s records were updated, please call Public Health at 519-575-4400 and they can let you know if you are up to date, so you do not have to worry.

Public Health Reminder – IMPORTANT**

Dear Families,

If you have received notices from public health and/or the school on behalf of public health, then you are aware that today is the deadline for updating your child’s immunization records.

As per Public Health’s direction, tomorrow, March 27, 2024, elementary students who have not provided Public Health with updated vaccination information will be suspended from school.

If you are not sure this affects your family, please call the office for confirmation.

Please see the details from Public Health:

Please ensure that your child’s vaccine records are up to date before March 26th, 2024 at 4:30 p.m.
 If your child has received any of the missing vaccines listed on the Suspension Order, report them online at regionofwaterloo.ca/vaccines
 If your child is missing a vaccine, you can:
o Book an appointment with your primary health care provider and upload your record after vaccination (regionofwaterloo.ca/vaccines).
o If you are unable to get an appointment with your healthcare provider before March 27, 2024, notify Public Health of your appointment through our web form available at regionofwaterloo.ca/vaccines. A temporary exemption will be placed on your child’s record to prevent suspension.
o If you do not have an OHIP card or health care provider, please call Public Health at 519-575-4400.

If Public Health does not receive this information before 4:30 p.m. on March 26th, your child will be suspended from school starting on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

Friday Flash…a look ahead!

Good morning Stars,

Please congratulate our Grade 2 students who received God into their hearts this week at their First Reconciliation!

Our Lenten Journey began with Ash Wednesday, and we are reminded daily of living in Lent through prayer, fasting, and acts of charity as we observe the solemn season leading up to Easter. It is a time to reflect on spiritual growth and renewal and embrace the opportunity for introspection and repentance, seeking to deepen our connection to our faith.

This coming week we will enjoy walking the Stations of the Cross (grades 4-8) and celebrating together in our Bread Liturgy (grades JK-3) as a way of remembering what Jesus did for us on Holy Thursday.

May this Easter Season be an opportunity for our Stars community to be renewed by the loving mercy of God. The staff at Sir Edgar Bauer wish everyone a safe and healthy Easter weekend.

Lenten Support: Marillac Place donations this week:

  • March 25 – 28 we will collect toonies

School News:

Digital Safety:  If your child has a phone or access to a device and the internet, parents are encouraged to check browsing history and social media accounts regularly. We encourage caregivers to sit down with their children and look through any accounts (if you are able) to determine whether the engagement is safe and healthy for your child.

If you are looking for resources on how to start the conversation with your child, we recommend Media Smarts. They are a Canadian resource that we also use in school. https://mediasmarts.ca/parents

Summer Programs – WCDSB

Good morning Stars,

Summer programs are open for registration TODAY!  Don’t miss out – they fill up quickly!

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board is committed to supporting our student’s continued learning. In July and August this year, there are several FREE* learning options offered through WCDSB/St. Louis, and are available for elementary and secondary students. These programs will ignite, support, and challenge student success as well as prepare them for their continued learning.

Be sure to have your child’s(ren’s) “OEN Number” located on the top of their report card.  This is needed to register for programs.

Friday Flash…welcome back!

Good morning Stars,

As we transition from the ‘chill’ of winter to the promise of spring, our students also continue to foster resilience, and dedication to new learning and growth.

We also continue our school journey through Lent. We hope we can spend time reflecting on Pope Francis’ words and fast from things that make life difficult and instead concentrate on loving our neighbour, loving ourselves, and loving our God.

Lenten Support: Marillac Place donations this week:

  • March 18 – 22 we will collect loonies
  • March 25 – 28 we will collect toonies

School News:

Upcoming Teams/Clubs:  A HUGE thank you to all the staff helping to run and coach the extra curricular activities coming up.  On the horizon we have:

  • Folk Dance
  • Jr Boys Bball One Day tournament
  • Intermediate Co-Ed Soccer – May 21 (rain date May 28th)
  • Cross Country – June 5
  • Boys and Girls Junior 3-Pitch Tournament – June 19
  • Intermediate Ultimate Frisbee – June 20
  • Games Club (lunch recess)
  • Art Club (lunch recess)

Be sure to ask your child(ren) if they are involved in any of these activities. We are a school who are very lucky to be offering as many activities as we do.  Thank you!

Spring is Coming!:  With changing and warmer temperatures brings rain and melted snow.  The field conditions at school can be very muddy.  At times students may be asked to stay off the fields and play on the asphalt, but the majority of the days we enjoy using the field and we are lucky to have Mrs. Manning who is patient when we (and a trail of mud) come inside!

This is a good time of year to remind you that students need to have a pair of indoor running shoes at school to change into.  We would encourage students to wear splash pants and boots and bring extra clothing to school (i.e. socks, pants, etc.).  This will eliminate the need to call home if clothes do get muddy.   Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation!
